Over 130 enthusiastic participants joined Indian Community Waterbeach for a colour Capitals run to celebrate Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colour in March. The festivities included Indian cuisine, a narration of the story of Holi by two Waterbeach Primary School children, craft stalls showcasing traditional arts and a performance from a local Indian dance group that turned into an impromptu warm-up for the runners.
The Indian Community Waterbeach also organised celebrations for Navratri and Diwali this autumn, with traditional dance, music, crafts and food enjoyed by friends, family and neighbours. They have been keen to build understanding of different cultures within the new community, and have been working with the Communities team at Urban&Civic to ensure a diverse offering of events and celebrations for new residents and the local community to join in throughout the year.
It’s been wonderful to be able to host some of our yearly festivals in the Studio at Waterbeach. Being able to open up our festivals and welcome in people from across the community is a really special way of helping to bring the community together and celebrate the breadth of cultures in Waterbeach. We would like to thank Urban&Civic for their continued support of ICW.
