Northamptonshire’s pilot of Voi e-scooters to promote greener travel options and reduce traffic, saw Priors Hall Park district centre host a 6-hour e-scooter safety event for residents.
Urban&Civic partnered with Voi, Northamptonshire Police and North Northamptonshire Council to hold the event as part of a Europe-wide road safety project.
Project EDWARD is a road safety initiative which aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Europe’s roads, run by the European traffic police network TISPOL, and every year it runs a campaign week which this year had the theme ‘Fit for the road’.
Nearly 80 local people registered to take part in the afternoon where they enjoyed a ‘how to’ session as part of an induction from Voi traffic school, whilst also receiving road safety tips from the AA, as well a free Voi helmet and £5 Voi voucher.
I’ve been re-evaluating my travel habits and looking at greener alternatives for a while, so it was the perfect chance for me to try the e-scooters as an option, in a safe environment right on my doorstep. They’re clearly an innovative, efficient and eco-friendly method of transport and I’ll be using my training and free credit on another journey soon.”
