Over 600 people came along to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy Alconbury Weald’s first Beer Festival hosted in partnership with Wheatsheaf Brewery.

Festival goers filled the tables in The Pavilion and spilled out onto the benches overlooking the cricket pitch, with some families bringing picnic blankets and camping chairs to settle in for a social afternoon/evening with family, friends and neighbours.

The Beer Festival, which was held in The Pavilion on 13/14 April, showcased a carefully selected range of beer from across the region. As well as some of Wheatsheaf Brewery’s finest beers, festival goers were able to sample beers from Ivo, Papworth, Bakers Dozen, Biochemist, Briarbank, Burwell, Nene Valley and Xtreme Ales.

A variety of local ciders (from Cromwell and Spinney Abbey) and gins (from Willow Tree and Roundwood) were also available alongside soft drinks, and food trucks served pizza, fish and chips, and a fusion of South African and Jamaican cuisine during the weekend.

We were absolutely blown away by the support and enthusiasm from everyone who came along and are already starting to think about next year!

Coming together over food and a drink or two, has been a key part of building the Alconbury Weald community – from pop-up food trucks, to the café in the Watch Office. It has been great working with the Community Association and Wheatsheaf Brewery to put on an event, which puts Alconbury Weald on the map, and which we hope will become a regular event for both the new community and for the wider villages around us to enjoy.
